It's been a great season for East London Hockey Club, with two teams promoted and a record-high number of volunteering hours across the club.
Our Women's 2s were dominant in London North Division 2, winning 21 of their 22 games. They will duly ascend to London North Division 1 next season.
The Men's 1s consolidated their position in Division 1, finishing seventh after a series of hard-fought games.
However it was a mixed season for our performance teams. Our Women's 1s were unlucky to be relegated from National Conference East following a string of tight defeats. The Men's 2s also missed promotion by a whisker after a season blighted by injury.
This disruption was mirrored in our Men's 3s, who were sadly relegated from Division 3. They will be joined in Division 4 East by the Men's 4s, who finally secured promotion in their final game.
Elsewhere, it was a stellar season for the women's side, with our 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, and 8s consolidating their league positions with strong mid-to-high table finishes.
Of special note were the women's 8s, whose volunteering hours were among the highest in the club.
The men's 5s and 6s enjoyed brief runs at the top of Div 5, while the 7s finished comfortably mid-table in Div 6.
Our ever-valiant men's 8s and women's 9s battled adversity but nonetheless came through with some respectable results.
The Men's 4s were awarded Team of the Year by the club at April's end-of-season dinner, for their efforts in securing promotion and an excellent attitude to volunteering.
Volunteering across the club was excellent. A total of 84 umpires officiated at least one game, and 24 members volunteered to coach. ELHC relies on its volunteers, and the high number of players giving umpiring a go at least once was greatly appreciated.
