MEET THE 2025/26 COMMITTEE

Behind the scenes at East London Hockey Club, a dedicated group of individuals forms the backbone of our community. Our volunteer committee members are the unsung heroes who ensure the seamless operation of our club, making every season a success.

From the Chairperson steering our vision to the Treasurer managing our finances, each role plays a vital part in shaping our club's future. The Hockey Development Officer giving us all the opportunity to get out on the pitch and play on a weekly basis, while the Youth Development Officer nurtures the next generation of talent. Umpire Liaisons, Fixtures Secretaries, and Social Secretaries ensure our games and events run smoothly.

Their collective dedication, expertise, and tireless efforts make ELHC a thriving, inclusive, and successful club. Join us in celebrating their commitment to the sport we love, as they continue to elevate our hockey experience year after year.

Roger Lilleystone, Club President

Roger is a founding member of ELHC and has had the privilege of captaining every men’s team in the club over the last 30 years. He dreams of one day winning the lottery to buy the club its own pitch and clubhouse.

Alexander Reeves, Club Chair

The Club Chair is responsible for the day-to-day running of ELHC, chairing the Executive and Operations Committee and setting the club’s strategic future direction. Alexander has served as the Men’s 3s captain for several years now. He is a dedicated member of ELHC, a former Club Secretary, with countless hours of volunteering under his belt.

Lara Brown, Club Secretary 

The Club Secretary is responsible for managing club documentation and communication. This is Lara's second year as Club Secretary. She has previously served as a deputy club captain and communications officer. Lara is currently a Women's 8s player and joint Captain of the Mixed Team.

Annie Brown, Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the running of the club’s finances, as well as delivering the end-of-year reports. Annie is very experienced in the role, and is assisted by Deputy Treasurer Paul Taylor.

Chilufya Mulenga, Women’s Club Captain

Club Captains work to make sure ELHC’s many teams are performing as well as they can. They coordinate with team captains to ensure members are in teams befitting their ability, while inspiring unity throughout the club. Chilyufa is new to the role, having previously served as Deputy Women’s Club Captain and Women’s 9s captain. She is assisted by Deputy Women’s Club Captain Annie Hall.

Andy Fox, Men’s Club Captain

Andy joined ELHC in 2018 and is in his third year as Men’s Club Captain. He has played for nearly every team he could, and promises he will break into the Men’s 1s someday. set the standards for teamwork, sportsmanship, and dedication. Club Captains work closely with coaches to refine strategies, inspire peak performance, and foster camaraderie among players. Andy is assisted by Deputy Men’s Club Captains Tom Haynes and Daniel Kupusarevic.

Hugo Kirby, Fixtures Secretary 

Hugo is new to the role of Fixtures Secretary, having been a mainstay in the Men’s 4s for three years. The Fixtures Secretary is responsible for booking pitches and ensuring matches are coordinated with other clubs.

Rose McCourt, Hockey Development Officer

The Hockey Development Officer promotes and enhances hockey participation and performance. They are crucial for the growth of hockey within the community, supporting players and coaches. Rose is assisted by Deputy Hockey Development Officer Ian Caddy.

Steve Canwell, Coach Liaison and Development Officer

The Coach Liaison and Development Officer coordinates our volunteer and paid coaches. Steve is new to the role, but no stranger to the committee, having served in a variety of roles previously. He has also coached teams on both the women’s and men’s teams.

Alice Varley, Sponsorship and Fundraising Officer

The Sponsorship & Fundraising Officer plays a critical role in securing financial support for the hockey club. This is Alice’s second year in the role. She works diligently to build partnerships with sponsors, create effective fundraising campaigns, and manage financial resources to ensure the club's financial health and continued growth.

Joe May, Tour Secretary

Joe has served as Tour Secretary for several years now, and has organised tours to Berlin, Helensburgh, and, erm, Sonning, with ELHC’s touring team The Untouchables.

Matt Smylie, Teas Secretary

The Teas Secretary is responsible for the post-match reception every Saturday. ELHC plays at a number of venues across East London, and Matt works with providers to ensure food is on offer for the opposition each week.

Alex Beck, Welfare Officer

Everyone in hockey has a responsibility to safeguard and protect young people. The Welfare Officer supports the club in promoting good safeguarding practices across the club, to be the named point of contact for all members of ELHC, to implement England Hockey’s Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Hockey Policy & Reporting Procedures where a concern has been raised.

Emily White and Tom Haynes, Communications Officers

Emily and Tom are responsible for coordinating online communications, with the former handling ELHC’s amazingly curated Instagram page. Tom is responsible for maintaining the website. Both have played hockey at ELHC for a number of years.

Ben Jacklin and Jeff Courtney, Umpire Liaison and Development Officers

The Umpire Liaison Officer in a hockey club like East London Hockey Club plays a critical role in managing and coordinating umpires for matches and ensuring the smooth conduct of games. Ben and Jeff are prolific umpires themselves and have been in this role now for three years.

Calum Greer and Eve Wedderburn, Social Secretaries

Social Secretaries organise and manage events and activities that foster camaraderie, team spirit, and a vibrant club culture. Calum and Eve are fittingly very social members of ELHC – the former has previously served as Men’s 5s Captain and Deputy Club Captain.



Youth Development Officer

Member of: Executive Committee

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the recruitment and development of children and young people within the Club
  • Act as the first point of contact with schools, parents, carers and youth members
  • Develop opportunities for young players to train and play hockey within and for the Club
  • Work together with coaches to ensure appropriate provision of development coaching for youth members
  • Work with Operations and Playing Committee Members to contribute to Club Policies that affect youth members

Kit Officer

Member of: Operations Committee

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an inventory of Club kit, a list of kit required, and a timed and costed plan to buy all kit required 
  • Supply people with kit numbers and keep record of numbers throughout the Club to avoid duplications
  • Enable and facilitate the purchase of all Club and members’ kit required
  • Arrange delivery and distribution of kit 
  • Maintain relationship with kit supplier, acting as first point of contact 
  • Ensure the Club has adequate provision of equipment and first aid kit for both matches and training 
  • Liaise with Treasurer regarding payment of invoices and kit budget 
  • Support the purchase of kit for ELHC tours as required
  • Liaise with Treasury on budget and forecast for Club kit
